This week the Edify team are in Queensland assisting with The Salvation Army’s response to Flood affected communities – our main roles include visiting devastated residences and connecting with the homeowners to find out the level of need they have, then returning to deliver the good news that support is available, not just financially, but personally, practically and emotionally.

It has been overwhelming in many cases and heartbreaking to listen to as families share their stories of grief, loss, confusion and pain. Many have not only lost all of their possessions but also their sense of security and safety. One family shared through tears the story of their traumatic escape from their area as the flood waters rose, and how their sense that ‘things are gonna be ok’ has been firmly shaken, sharing that they can only face each day as it comes.

Another family shared of the horrific behavior they’d received from the Insurance company they are a customer / client of. It angered all of us as they shared the injustice of their situation, the insurance company not only looking for every opportunity to not pay out, but displaying the most in-compassionate attitude throughout the process …

In the midst of suffering and loss though there are real signs of hope, communities pulling together, neighbor supporting neighbor, tears of joy as families receive much needed support and gracious hearts and attitudes displayed by so many.

Please continue to keep the families and communities of flood affected Queensland in your prayers, despite the bright and beautiful Queensland tourism ads currently on television there’s still a whole heap of pain and healing and work to be done. The Salvation Army is currently putting the call out to experienced and compassionate professionals who are willing to give a week to go and partner with them in outreaching to the community, if thats you leave a comment and we can get in touch.
