One thing we’re passionate about at Sexy Justice is taking young people and young adults passion for justice and giving them avenues and opportunities to genuinely express this passion!

Volunteering is Sexy?

VolunteerAccording to this article if you’re feeling lonely and need to prop up your dating chances then volunteering is the answer! Volunteering allows you to meet new people and then when you’re out on the town nothing is more attractive than telling your desired boyfriend/girlfriend all about about your volunteering and impressing them with your ‘goodness’.

Hmmm…I can see the logic behind all this and I’d recommend volunteering or serving as a brilliant way to strengthen your relationships with others. But whatever happened to simply volunteering because you wanted to add value to others? What happened to volunteering and serving in silence or secretly.

Imago Dei…Made in the image of me?

Creation of AdamThe concept and theological doctrine of Imago Dei, Latin for image of God, speaks of the fact that all people are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27). We then interpret this to say that thus all people have inherent value and worth and that no man woman or child is less valuable than the next, regardless of race, sex, culture, place of birth, orientation, economic prosperity, lifestyle, tastes, attitudes, skin colour etc. etc. A great quote by Bono from the band U2 captures some of the spirit of the doctrine of Imago Dei.

“Where you live should no longer determine whether you live”.

It’s a beautiful doctrine and one that I personally hold very close to my heart. It helps me to see the good in any person no matter how broken or wounded they are, and despite how poor their behaviour is, as several of the people we work with at Streetlevel and Oasis exhibit some of these!
